HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT GETS HELP FROM AUTOMAKER FOR CAMPAIGN TO THANK THE TROOPS
Orange, Ca Orange Lutheran High School senior, Shauna Fleming is being featured during the month of May, National Military Appreciation Month, in a series of national television ads which promote showing appreciation for U.S. Service Members by writing a thank you letter or card and dropping it off at any Buick, Pontiac or GMC dealer throughout the country.
Shauna filmed four commercials in Florida and Detroit two weeks ago after partnering with General Motors. In the commercials, the high school senior asks the viewers to thank our military men and women by writing a thank you letter and depositing them in special A Million Thanks mailboxes at all 3,500 Buick, Pontiac and GMC dealers across the country. The goal is to collect one million thank you letters during the month of May at collection points located in each dealership. Once collected, A Million Thanks will distribute the notes.
The first commercial can be viewed on Shauna's web site, www.aMillionthanks.org
Fleming, 18 of Orange, is the founder of A Million Thanks.org which has collected and distributed over 3 million thank you letters and cards to U.S. military members since March, 2004.
“The reaction we’ve received from the military who have been reached by our efforts has been so rewarding,” said Fleming. “The support of Buick, Pontiac and GMC will allow us to greatly expand our ability to reach out to members of the armed force around the world, exactly at a time when they need our support the most.”
.
This year’s program builds on the success of a 2006 effort by General Motors’ Buick, Pontiac and GMC divisions to assist the VFW National Home for Children in Eaton Rapids, Mich. The unique facility, which provides community-based support for military families in need, has received in excess of $3 million from Buick, Pontiac and GMC to date.
“After our efforts with the National Home for Children last year, we felt strongly that we could and should do more for the military and their families,” said John Larson, general manager of Buick-Pontiac-GMC. “We are indeed fortunate to be in a position where we have the resources and infrastructure to help Shauna and A Million Thanks with their mission.”
