Los Angeles The teen that started a national letter writing campaign to show appreciation for our troops and veteran’s, has decided to continue her campaign as a year-round project.

Shauna Fleming, 15, a freshman at Lutheran High School in Orange, California has received almost 600,000 letters toward her goal of one million.

"I was hoping to have the million letters by the end of May, but that’s ok," said Fleming. "My desire to continue the project has really nothing to do with hitting my goal. I have found what’s more important is to get mail into the hands of our military. They need to know we care," Fleming added.

Gregg Pinick, Principal of Lutheran High, supports Fleming’s decision to continue.

"This has been one of the biggest, most worthwhile events our school has participated in. I can’t see stopping it now," said Pinick.

Fleming said her new goal is to put 1.4 million smiles on the faces of our military, since that is the approximate number of active military around the globe.
